We are a small friendly business, owned and run by the Whalley family since 1959.
Nestling in the Douglas Valley, in the rural hamlet of Gathurst just 4 miles from Wigan town centre, we are surrounded by our 200 acres of beautiful Lancashire countryside with easy access by road ( 5 mins J26 & J27 of the M6) and rail ( 2 mins walk from Gathurst Station).
At Deandane we pride ourselves on our friendly, experienced and professional staff who are dedicated to making your pets stay with us more of a home from home than just boarding, taking time to get to know each animals personality and preferences.
Although there remains no evidence that pets are implicated in the transmission of Covid-19 to people there is some risk of the virus being carried on pets and their belongings. The risk of human to human transmission remains high and with that in mind we have in place robust hygiene and social distancing protocols for receiving and returning boarding pets from and to their owners.
Before considering boarding your pet, please read the following carefully.
ONLY ONE PERSON TO ACCOMPANY THE PET ONTO THE PREMISES
All bookings can be made by telephone or email. You will be asked the health status of your household i.e. if a member of your household is shielding or has had, or is suspected of having Covid-19. We do not wish to offend but it will help us to determine the risk factors involved.
We will arrange an arrival and departure time to ensure that we deal with one customer at a time and request that these times are adhered to, to minimise the risk of more than one customer on site at any time. We will require your email address so that we can send confirmation of the booking and a copy of our Covid-19 handover procedures.YOUR PET WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF YOU JUST TURN UP.
Payment may be made by bank transfer beforehand, details will be given if required on booking, or cash on arrival with money being placed in to the box provided. Please bring the correct money to minimise further risks.
We will still need to update/confirm records and we ask that you stand outside the office, to keep the safe distance required, while we do this. We will still need proof of vaccination which will be dealt with in a safe manner, or alternatively, you can email us a picture of the appropriate pages including your pets name and address. WE ARE UNABLE TO PHONE VETS FOR CONFIRMATION AT THIS TIME.
We politely request that you bring as little as possible with your pet. We will provide all bedding, toys, bowls etc, to minimise all virus risks, however, you may bring your pets own food if it is necessary. This will be discussed on booking.
AFTER BOOKING IN PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
You will be asked to walk your dog/s to the kennels with a member of staff, keeping to correct social distancing guidelines. You will be asked to take your dog/s through the double gates, shutting each gate behind you, and enter the first exercise run, close the gate, remove all harnesses/leads/collars and exit the run leaving your dog/s loose. You will then exit the kennels taking your harnesses/leads/collars with you. Please go straight to your car and leave the premises. A member of staff will then take your dog/s to the allocated kennel/s using our own leads.
For departures the reverse of the above will be used with your dog/s being placed in the same run for you to then enter the kennels, using the same safety procedures, and retrieve your dog/s with your own harnesses/leads/collars.
We ask that all carriers have only paper inside which we will dispose of and replace for your return, and that all collars are removed before arrival.
You will be asked to place your carrier on the floor and then to return to your car and leave the premises. A member of staff will take your cat/s to the allocated cattery/s. Your carrier will be cleaned with an anti viral disinfectant. For departures the reverse of the above will be used with your cat/s being brought to you by a member of staff.
We thank you for your co-operation during these uncertain times.
Our kennels are specifically designed with spacious indoor sleeping areas with all day access to a covered outdoor play area via a door with see through draught curtain. These doors are closed at night and the kennels heated in the cold weather so the dogs are always cosy and warm. Beds are supplied with soft paper bedding which is changed or replenished daily, however, you are more than welcome to bring your own bed and/or bedding if you prefer.
We have various sized kennels to suit single and multiple pets.
Your pet will also have access to our large, grassed exercise paddocks, at least 3 times a day, to run free and play with the staff.
For the comfort of your dog, we use shavings on the floor of the internal kennel to soak up any urine if, for any reason, your dog needs to go. We can use shredded paper if you would prefer, please ask when you arrive.
We have various designs and sizes of catteries to cater for all personalities and multiple pets.
Design 1 has steps up to a bed platform. Access to a covered outside play area is via a cat flap where cats can lounge on the shelf and watch the world go by. They also feature further play platforms. These catteries are heated in the cold weather.
Design 2 is perfect for indoor living cats with a viewing window and lounging platform for watching the world go by. Each has a living space with an insulated, covered bed and is individually heated with access to an internal play area via a cat flap, complete with further platforms.
Design 3 is perfect for cats who prefer the outdoor life. They are fully covered with draught proofing at bed level and open at shelf level so cats can view the countryside and wildlife. All beds are insulated so there is always a warm, cosy place for sleeping. We also have double units for multiple pets who like their own space. These are connected via a cat flap allowing each cat to decide which space it would like to occupy. These catteries are only used in the warmer weather, unless requested, as they cannot be heated, although heated pads are are available for the beds.
All are light and airy with a cosy sleeping area with covered beds and comfy vetbed bedding so your pet will feel safe, a scratch post, toys and litter trays.
All our fees are fully inclusive but you are more than welcome to bring your own food, bed, toys etc if you wish and there is no extra charge for administering medication.

It is against the law for any licensed kennels and cattery to allow any animal into the premises without proof of relevant vaccinations. It is the pet owners responsibility to check your pet is up to date well in advance of the boarding period as it is very distressing for all concerned to be turned away on the day you are going on holiday. Your vet will happily give you a copy if you have mislaid the certificate.
